OPT#1

This option includes three long unsupported bike rides and three days of touring. We stay in downtown Chicago as inexpensively as possible at the Ohio House and we have our usual guests.

Typical four and five star hotels cost $400/night plus $60/day to park.  The Ohio House(Approx $300/night, including taxes plus $250/rm damage deposit, for 3rd week in October per motel website) is downtown, offers basic motels services, and has free public parking in a very small lot. See map below for the location. One should budget another $20/day to $30/day for parking at Millennium Park or other museum parking lots)

Day 0: Drive from Hendersonville to Chicago.  It is a ten-hour drive and gets real messy around Chicago.

Day 1 though 6: Schedule as convenient as weather permits. The most likely plan would alternate bike rides with tour days.

The three tour days include: one day of a walking tour centered on Grant Park and the Art Institute, one day of visiting Natural History, Aquarium, and Planetarium, and one day of driving to Batavia and touring Argonne National Labs. May have to add time (or replace the Argonne Visit) for a visit to the Science and Industry museum.

The three unsupported, 60-mile-long bike rides do a North Loop

a South Loop

and a West Loop.

During this time the guests would have to entertain themselves, which could include a walk along the Magnificent Mile, visit to Navy Pier, and a stroll along the Chicago Riverwalk and maybe a stop at the Cultural Center.
